In February 2026 we celebrated Six Years of Distant Dances - an evolving programme of guided adventures in movement and dance, for all bodies that like to move, led by Kyra Norman
"Grateful for this opportunity to reflect on the last six years of Distant Dances action - from vague idea and sense of possibility, to established community movement programme that keeps on growing and adapting...
"The Thursday sessions now attract 20+ people weekly, and there are always new recruits and passers-through from elsewhere, alongside much-loved regulars, of all ages and diverse movement backgrounds. It really is a joy to hold, and behold, every time, and I'm so thankful to everyone who keeps showing up and joining me in this beautiful thing."
In February 2026, Kyra was invited to perform UP, ACROSS AND ALONG as part of Metabolizer, an installation conceived by Julia Pond, at 37 Looe Street, Plymouth
Metabolizer ran from 5th February to 11th March 2026 - the installation was a site of continuous change and transformation, exploring dance, productivity, growth and value
Each Wednesday, Julia invited a guest artist to present their work, sharing a questioning approach to these themes. The other guest artists were Manuela Albrecht, Bred, Heni Hale, Bryony Gillard
In November and December 2025, Kyra held a four-week series of Rest & Reimagine sessions at the Hypatia Trust
Starting with a question: how might reflecting on the wisdom, concerns and lived experiences of the women whose words are held in this library, help us to reimagine what might be possible for us, in these current, turbulent times?
In September 2025, poet Katrina Naomi published a pamphlet of poems, dance as if (Verve Poetry Press), inspired by her recent collaboration with Kyra. A follow-up to Katrina's widely praised fourth full collection Battery Rocks (Seren, 2024)
"exuberant and celebratory" Tishani Doshi
"dance as if is a glorious rediscovery of body, a radical relearning of the skin and bones of us. The poetry is sinuous, alive and in constant movement." Joelle Taylor
In May & June 2025, the Deep Time Moving process films were screened at Tremenheere Gallery, as part of The Land Will Call You Home, curated by Sam Bassett
For the exhibition closing event, Kyra reworked a section of Deep Time Moving live performance work as an installation for the gallery space, with dancers Winona Guy and Talia Sealey.
In March 2025, Kyra held a month-long residency at Auction House, Redruth. During her time there she explored some current concerns around access, consistency, productivity and rest, and some open questions about how money currently circulates, in the arts and in a local high street
These themes were woven into practical research for ongoing work, Up, Across and Along, with collaborators Kath Buckler, Lois Taylor, Angus Balbernie, Kuldip Singh-Barmi and Winona Guy.
Kyra also used this space and time to hold a series of public, drop-in Open Practice sessions, inspired by and in dialogue with Wainsgate Dances; to co-host an ALL IN DISCO with artist Faye Dobinson; and to begin a research conversation with language artist Camilla Nelson, around their shared love of the work of anthropologist Tim Ingold, and in particular his book Lines: A Brief History.
Since 2024, Kyra collaborates with artist Faye Dobinson as ALL IN: a meeting place for their respective practices
